 A Complete Step-By-Step Childbirth Curriculum

"It's everything you need to teach a six night prenatal series!"

12 hours of lesson plans flow as a full prenatal education class or each could be taught as a stand alone class.  Class topics include:

  1. Introduction to Labor and Birth
  2. Breathing and Relaxation
  3. Comfort Measures
  4. Interventions and Informed Consent
  5. Breastfeeding
  6. Labor Review and Postpartum Care
  • You’ll learn to kick start the class with a motivating statement and to use a question or activity to assess your class’s past experience with the topic.

  • Each section is timed to give you an idea of how long each bit of teaching should take and the optimal pacing for a 2 hour class.

  • Instructor’s Activities contain a comprehensive script for your teaching and includes activities and questions for the students.

  • Learner’s Activities describe what the learners are doing (reading, watching, practicing, writing). You’ll learn how to mix up the pace and style of learning to keep the classes engaging.

  • You’ll find lists of the teaching aids you may wish to have at each point in the class. Options are given for items to use, if you don’t have resources readily available.

  • Instructor’s References give you the resources used in the creation of this curriculum. As you’ll find, classes evolve over time with changes in practice and feedback from students. Birthwares current curriculum has had years of input from parents and professionals to reach this point.

  • Based on a philosophy of harm-reduction and informed consent, you’ll inform and share with good humor and respect. Without judgment, you can now offer up-to-date plain language information to provide expecting moms and their support people with the knowledge necessary to make informed choices.

  • Birthwares 6 Part Prenatal Curriculum encourages you to make the classes your own and, as a starting point for you, guides you in creating your own model of teaching.
